A great hike near the battlefields and a picnic again at Antietam Creek Vineyards.
Peter and Boomer getting ready for the hike.
Snavely Ford Trail is perfect for a hot day, which it was! Mostly flat and shaded.
Boomer needed cooling off!
This trail was a quiet, beautiful place to walk.
Take One-Peter
This trail was a good one for Boomer as it was a hot day. Some of the other trails around the battlefield were open air so if you go on one of those, make sure you have water and put sunscreen on. An easy hike/walk for those with dogs.
Take Two-Emily
Antietam is a really special place to go. There is so much history here, you can't feel but overwhelmed at times. Besides the battlefields there are a lot of nearby hiking trails. Some are accessed right at the main parking lot and others you have to drive to. Snavely Ford trail is not by the main parking lot. It was one you had to drive to get there. It's a mostly shaded trail that follows Antietam Creek. It's a 1.8 mile loop. Make sure you bring water with you as it got hot out the day we were there. And Boomer needed water, too, so don't forget about your dogs!
Eat, Drink & Be Merry
After our hike, we went back to Antietam Creek Vineyards as it's literally right next door to the battlefields. They have picnic tables and it's a great place for that. They also have live music on the weekends and a food truck, if you don't bring your own food. It's super dog-friendly, too. We like this place because it's super chill and laid back and is a great place to sit outside on a pretty day and relax. It also is a special place, knowing the history of the area.
The Wrap
Antietam certainly is a must for any civil war buffs but besides the battlefields, there are some great hiking trails, too.
Our own special charcuterie board from Emily's dear friends, Shari and Tammy. We like the Vidal Blanc at this vineyard. Slightly sweet and refreshing for an afternoon picnic.
Live music here on Saturdays and Sundays which is always nice!
